'If It's Football, It's Vital'

More New Gills Expected

Unlike last year, Gillingham have really hit the ground running this year as they begin to prepare for next season.

This time last year we didn't even know if manager Stan Ternent would be staying at the club, throwing the future of the squad into turmoil.

But manager Ronnie Jepson has already signed strikers Gary Mulligan and Guylian Ndumbu-Nsungu, as well as tying Ian Cox, Frannie Collin and Luke Howell to new contracts.

And Scally told Kent On Sunday that more new arrivals are imminent.

He said: 'We hope to sign two or three players over the weekend but until they have been confirmed I'm not in a position to reveal who they may be or what positions they will fill.'

The rumour mill has pointed to two specific targets though.

The first is goalkeeper Dino Semeret, from Luton Town.

The 25-year-old is out of contract at Kenilworth Road, and has found first-team opportunities hard to come by with Mike Newell's side.

The Slovenian's only appearances this season have come during loan spells with Doncaster and Tranmere.

One of his Doncaster appearances was in their League Cup win over Aston Villa, while he was in goal for Tranmere when they claimed a 1-1 draw at Priestfield in February.

The second player linked is Southend striker Wayne Gray.

Gray, 25, is reported to have turned down a new deal at the newly-promoted Shrimpers and the former MK Dons man could be tempted by a move to Kent.

Three players who it seems won't be pledging their futures to the club this week are Tommy Black, Darren Byfield and Jason Brown.

Black enjoyed three months on loan at Priestfield last season, while Byfield and Brown are both out of contract.

And Scally added: 'We've not held any negotiations yet with Tommy Black and as for Byfield and Brown, we'll just have to see what happens.'

Either way, it seems Monday will be an exciting day for Gills fans... Visit us here at Vital Gillingham to see the news, and the early impressions of any new arrivals.
