On Saturday 5th May, Gillingham completes their league two fixture listing for 2012 at Priestfield against Morecambe.
With the Gills in ninth place and Morecambe in fourteenth, neither team have anything to play for accept to see out the close of the season.
So I thought I would take this opportunity to take a look back on three home games this season, all taken from my archives, hence all starting with the letter 'A` that have played some part in determinaning our destination this season. Please see any relevant attached links with a brief summary based on purely nothing more than my own opinion at the time. It is purely coincidence that the three games happen to be a draw, win and loss...
Sat 10th Sept 2011, Accrington Stanley, 1-1 - Not one for the neutral
A comment from a supporter of another team that attended the game with me:
'I thought you were pretty sound defensively and apart from your keeper making one serious blunder, you never really looked like conceding for 85 minutes. You just need a bit more width up front and a good playmaker and you will be ok`
Width has certainly been the talking point among many fans throughout the season and confirmed by a spectator that had only seen the Gills play once this season (as a guest).
Mon 2nd Jan 2012, Aldershot Town, 1-0 - Gills beat Shots
Despite several close chances for the shots, after Martin's dismissal reduced the Gills to ten men, the Gillingham defence remained solid as they ran the clock down and took the three points in a 1-0 victory with defender Matt Lawrence being named as Man of the Match.

Interesting to note Matt Lawrence was Man of the Match did I get that bit right, I really cannot remember?
Sat 24th Jan 2012, AFC Wimbledon, 3-4 - Passionate Dons
What happened next will be debated for many days to come. A few substitutions and tactical changes by Andy Hessenthaler, led to what can only be best described as a complete collapse.
We can argue about penalty decisions and poor defending but when that fourth goal hit the back of the net for Wimbledon, yes Wimbledon, their fans erupted with such passionate noise at 3-4 you knew it was their day.
I heard an interview where Hessy will watch a DVD with the lads, obviously to see what went wrong. May I suggest the only part of the DVD you watch is the frame where the Wimbledon players and fans were celebrating their fourth goal. It is all in the heart.
