'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Allen not afraid to upset the applecart

"If you are good enough you are old enough" is a famous motto in football, if not life in general.

This is something that Martin Allen, as he told BBC Radio Kent, is going by with Gillingham and isn't afford of upsetting the senior players by using younger ones: 'I don't care who they are if they go in and play well. It doesn't matter to me if the senior players are not happy.

'We'll put in the players who will try and win us some points. It's the same from the goalkeeper to the centre-forward.'

A prime example of youth over experience is midfielder Bradley Dack who took his pre-season goals tally to five goals when he scored an incredible four goals in 10-minutes of The Gills' 7-1 win over Royal Engineers on Wednesday.

Dack earned his chance in training, and he is taking it with Allen keen to retain him and not loan him out to gain further experience: 'he just kept scoring in training so we just put him in the team.

'Last year he got 26 goals last year in the youth team from midfield. I'm not sure we should get rid of him [on loan].'

You want to get the blend of youth and experience right, but Allen will do this.
