Spot on!

Gillingham 1-0 Southend

18th Sept 2012
19:45
Priestfield

Gillingham stretched their unbeaten run, and the lead at the top of the league two table, when they saw off in-form Southend on Tuesday night at Priestfield.

After a long delay in the first half, when Southend had keeper Paul Smith injured following a clash with Deon Burton, this meant a lot of first half injury time would be seen...It was during this period that Gillingham took the lead.

Danny Kedwell (45+3) took responsibility for this spot kick and tucked it past the replacement keeper to give the hosts a one-nil half time lead, but there was still time for Gillingham youngster Bradley Dack to see a straight red for a lunge on Mark Phillips.

Southend tried to battle back in the second half against the 10-men but weren't able to do this with Gillingham seeing out a 1-0 win.
