Victory extends Gills lead at the top

Port Vale 0-2 Gillingham
22nd Sept 2012
15:00
Vale Park

The top two met at Vale Park on Saturday afternoon with the visiting Gillingham the ones to come away with the points after beating Port Vale.

Gillingham were two-up by the half-hour mark after goals from Deon Burton (11) and Chris Whelpdale (25) left the visitors, and league two leaders, in control.

Port Vale tried to get back into the game before half time with three decent chances passing them by.

Those first half goals were enough for Gillingham (with Jennison Myrie-Williams going closest for the hosts with a free-kick that caught the top of the bar midway through the second half) to give them a 2-0 win and see the lead at the top of the table extended to six-points!
