Vale beat Gills to go top

The top of the table battle between Gillingham and Port Vale saw Vale the victors at Priestfield on Saturday afternoon to replace The Gills at the top of the table.

It didn't take long for Port Vale to break the deadlock; their top goalscorer Tom Pope (4) cracked home his 24th of the season to open the scoring.

Vale were soon two-nil up when Lee Hughes (20) marked his debut with a goal, however within a minute Gillingham were back in the game through Danny Kedwell (21).

Gillingham had chances in either half but were only able to score once, paying the price for two early goals with a 2-1 defeat to their title rivals.
