Payne out as McDonald returns

Ahead of the weekend game Gillingham lost one player while another came in.

Cody McDonald's return on loan from Coventry wasn't a surprise; he'd been training with The Gills that week with the view to another loan return. This loan came with the Coventry striker coming in on a 93-day emergency loan.

Coventry could recall the 28-year-old, who earned Gillingham a point at the weekend, after 28-days if they so wish though.

A surprise departure was that of Jake Payne, who has left the club for the Championship.

The 21-year-old midfielder has been gaining the attention of other clubs and finally after more than 100 outings for the club his future seems to lie away from Priestfield. Initially Payne has joined Peterborough on loan until the end of the season, however they have the option to sign him permanently.
