Gills Release Several Youngsters

It's that time of year when youngsters start to find out if they'll be making the grade or not, at least with their current clubs and Gillingham have decided to release several players.

Goalkeeper Daren Hawkes has been released with striker Ashley Miller (who made his Gills debut as a 16-year-old) told he's going to be given a free transfer.

Midfielders Nathan Nyafli and Alfie Coates (who would have been a third-year scholar) along with defender Jack Parter, who are third year scholars, have been informed that they'll be released in the summer.

Having recently returned from injury, defender Joe Carter is still unsure what the future holds for him, however he'll know soon.

It's never a nice thing for any manager to do and Martin Allen and his coaching set up wouldn't have enjoyed doing this but if they don't feature in his future plans they have to move on and can hopefully find themselves new clubs soon to continue their footballing careers.
