Win Sends Gills Back To League One

Gillingham 1-0 Torquay
6th April 2013

Priestfield

Having been away from it for three-years Gillingham can now look forward to League One football next season following a home win over Torquay to seal promotion.

With just two minutes on the clock Adam Birchall almost put Gillingham ahead, however his effort came back off the bar with Danny Kedwell and Steven Gregory also going close.

Torquay twice threatened to break the deadlock though, around the midway point of the first half Rene Howe first was denied by the post and a minute late a goal line clearance.

Gillingham finally forced the breakthrough though just after the break when Danny Kedwell (48) volleyed home.

Late on The Gulls went close to levelling, Kevin Nicholson's freekick came back off the bar though but it was The Gills left celebrating at fulltime, and not just because of the 1-0 win but the confirmation that promotion was secured.

Gillingham will now be looking to secure the title, whereas Torquay are looking very much like they'll slip into the relegation zone and end their latest tenure in the Football League.
