Having now secured promotion to League One Martin Allen's thoughts have already started turning to next season.
Wholesale changes to the Gillingham squad isn't something Allen is planning, as he told BBC Radio Kent, as he feels the majority of his squad has the ability to play at a higher level.
The gulf isn't such that they won't be able to cope and being "self-motivated" will allow most to do this anyway: 'I don't think it's a massive gulf. We'll bring in some players, but we're a team. It's teams which do well, not individuals.
'We have got a lot of good players here and they can rise and go again. We don't need massive surgery.
'The players are very self-motivated and driven to improve.'
The gap in quality between League One and League Two definitely isn't much, so I agree with Allen and do think that pretty much all of the current squad have a part to play next season and the current squad, with a couple of additions perhaps, could more than hold it's own next season.
