'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Getting It Right

Having previously admitted that little movement into the transfer market would be needed by Gillingham this summer Martin Allen has admitted that some extra quality is required.

With "the right recruitment" The Gills could challenge in League One, Allen said: 'If we get the player recruitment right, we will challenge again. I have read enough books by Sir Alex Ferguson to know that as soon as you have done it (won the title), you have to get on to the next one.

'I thought about that even on Saturday night: 'Get your head down, have a good time tonight, chill out on Sunday but come Monday morning, get back on it'.'

There's no chance of Allen "resting" at all, he is already plotting his summer moves having enjoyed the title success last weekend, he added: 'I have enjoyed looking at the pictures from last weekend and went out jogging to re-live the special day.

'Lots of people around the stadium, while I was out jogging, have been kind to me and that`s nice.

'But there is no chance of me stepping back and having a few days off. We are now looking at possible players. I have been putting meetings in place, chatting to people and working through lists. Once you have gone through the lists, if there are people you like, you find out what they are like.'

Allen is such a committed individual that's proven to be a very good fit at Priestfield.

Expecting instant success at League One level isn't something that should be on the agenda of too many people's minds, however with Allen already working hard with next season in mind consolidating a place in that Division isn't too much to ask for I don't think?
