Gills End With A Rare Away Defeat

Burton 3-2 Gillingham
27th April 2013
15:00
Pirelli Stadium

A cracking season for League Two champions Gillingham ended with a rare away defeat at fellow promotion candidates Burton, who are in the play offs, on Saturday.

Myles Weston (9) opened the scoring early for Gillingham when he converted from the spot.

However, after Jimmy Phillips had hit the post, Billy Kee (33) brought Burton level just after the half hour mark. Burton came from behind to be leading at the break when Michael Symes (39) tapped home.

The Brewers further extended their lead when Calvin Zola (63) headed home just after the hour.

Nathan Nyafli (66) set up a grandstand finish when he rounded off a long throw in to reduce Gillingham's deficit.

Gillingham couldn't find an equaliser meaning the 3-2 defeat was only their third away defeat in League Two all season, with Burton going into the play offs having finished in fourth.
