Former Loanee Opts For Portsmouth

Gillingham had hoped to "assess" Danny East this pre-season, ahead of a potential move to bring to back to Priestfield permanently. However, they've been beaten to the punch.

The former Gills loanee was someone that Martin Allen had been looking to invite back for pre-season training with a potential contract with the League One side on offer had he impressed during what would have been essentially a trial period.

Allen has lost out to one of his former clubs, as a player, Portsmouth with them snapping up the 21-year-old defender on a two-year contract.

You can't begrudge East accepting a contract, when there might not have been an assurance he would have got one with Gillingham!
