Thrilled Allen Scoops Award

Thrilled Allen Scoops Award

Martin Allen's reward for gaining Gillingham promotion into League One, if promotion in itself wasn't enough, has been the award of the League Two Manager of the year.

Allen was named this at the LMA annual awards dinner on Monday night.

Just some 12-months prior to guiding The Gills to the title Allen feared that his days in management were numbered, with him already looking at "alternative career options" after leaving Barnet.

He told the official website: 'I am thrilled, honoured, shocked and surprised to be named the Manager of the Year for League Two.

'It was only a year ago I was looking for different career options and was hoping talkSPORT or Sky Sports would give me an opportunity, or maybe a place on the after-dinner speaking circuit, after Barnet had told me I was not going to be offered a contract.

'I still have to pinch myself that all this has happened so quickly.'

No need to pinch yourself Martin, it's all real!

Allen definitely deserved this award; I wonder what odds you would get on him winning this again as a League One manager?
