Martin Closes In On New Deal

Joe Martin looked as though he could have left Gillingham at one point, however Martin Allen has now revealed that a new deal is close for the left back.

At the turn of the year negotiations were stalling but on Tuesday Allen, as KentOnline revealed, said that a deal is now "very close". He said: 'He is very, very close to agreeing a deal now.

'Hopefully that will be done next week. That will be a big weight off my mind.'

Martin has been instrumental for the club in the two-years he's been at Priestfield so far and played a key role in helping The Gills to the League Two title last season so tying down the 24-year-old to a new deal would be a major plus going into the League One season.
