'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Like A Sponge!

After two loan spells Gillingham finally managed to secure the permanent signing of Cody McDonald.

Martin Allen, as he told BBC Radio Kent, has backed the striker to fire the goals for the Gills this season.

In fact he has backed him, and thanked Paul Scally for securing his signing, to score 20-plus goals.

He said: 'We knew he'd come eventually and Mr Scally has done an amazing job to put the package together.

'Cody loves it here and I love having him here. He will get 20-plus goals, there is no doubt about that.'

McDonald is someone that Allen thinks very highly of, and has likened him to a sponge! In a positive way though due to the way he is always willing to learn.

Adding: 'Cody is like a sponge. You talk to him and he looks at you and you can see that he is listening.

'I say to him 'Are you sure and clear about everything I want you to do?'.

'He looks at me with his lovely eyes, like an owl. He has this attitude, he wants to know and he embraces it.'

Previous tends to suggest that McDonald's capable of producing the goods, and if he does the Gills won't go far wrong this season!
