Taylor: An Outstanding Result

Gillingham's season continued on Tuesday night with the latest league fixture played, with them virtually confirming another season in this league.

Milton Keynes Dons, searching for a play-off spot, would have gone into the meeting with Gillingham as favourites on Tuesday but the Gills stunned them winning 1-0.

Peter Taylor even admitted that perhaps his side didn't even believe they would win with him praising an 'outstanding win' that takes his side nine-points safe of the drop zone.

The Gills boss said: 'It's an outstanding result for us and one I'm sure that not a lot of people expected - probably us as well because MK Dons are a very good football team.

'I couldn't ask any more of the players for the way they worked and I know that on the stats there'll be loads of possession for MK Dons and not a lot for us but we defended as a team and backed each other up and I'm not convinced there was a clear-cut chance for MK Dons.

'I think that is credit to the players who fought magnificently as a group and deserved a clean sheet.

A first goal for Gillingham by Craig Fagan was enough to secure the points and virtually ensure another season of league one football at Priestfield.

You have to go into a game with a gameplan and Taylor thought this worked perfectly against MK Dons.

He added: 'If we'd have come here with a 4-4-2 I think that they would have opened us up too much.

'There are times you have to deny them space so the players worked really well and it was a hard night for all of them.'
