Gills 0-3 Scunthorpe Utd
How often does a club that has just sacked it's boss then go an win? Gillingham were hoping this wouldn't happen to us on Saturday afternoon but that's exactly what happened as Scunthorpe United beat us 3-0 at Priestfield on Saturday afternoon, in a game that also saw us end with 10-men.
Cody McDonald had a chance to give us a first minute lead but his effort went into the side netting, but we struggled to get into the game after that.
Rory Fallon went close and Paddy Madden, set up by Jennison Myrie-Williams, had an effort ruled out for offside with us reduced to 10-men 10-minutes before the break when a two-footed challenge from captain Doug Loft saw him sent off.
Scunthorpe might have agreed a deal with Mark Robins to become their next boss but it was Andy Dawson that was in caretaker charge and he saw his side go into the break ahead as Madden (41) got onto Gary McSheffrey's pass to go around Stephen Bywater, the Millwall loanee returned in goal after missing out to Stuart Nelson in midweek, to score.
The lead wasn't doubled until someway into the second half but when Neal Bishop (72) headed home a Luke O'Neill cross it was deserved.
A first away win since early April was secured by the league 1 strugglers when McSheffrey (90) embarked on a solo effort in injury-time to wrap up a three-nil win just days after Scunthorpe had sacked boss Russ Wilcox.
