Who Are Ya... Carlisle?

Who Are Ya... Carlisle?
Who are ya? Carlisle United

Nickname: The Blues/Cumbrians

Ground: Brunton Park

How to get there: By Car: From Gillingham, get onto the A2 and then the M25 anti-clockwise. Leave the M25 at Junction 21A, the M1. Then leave the M1 at Junction 19 for the M6. After using the toll road if you so choose, leave the M6 at Junction 43 and take the first exit off the roundabout. The Blue roof of the Cumberland Building Society Stand can be seen on the right hand side nearly from the roundabout. Keep going straight ahead along Warwick Road (A69). After passing through the third set of traffic lights the club shop (Blues Store) and Hughie McIlmoyle statue marks the main entrance to the ground. Car parking in this area is strictly limited to pass holders, visiting directors (by prior arrangement) and the away team bus. For the main car park, drive on past the ground and for the next set of traffic lights get into the right hand lane. Turn right at the lights then, after 100 yards, turn right into St Aidans Road. At the end of this road keep right, through the narrows and over the hump, into the main car park. There is also street parking around the ground but this is likely to be restricted once disc parking is introduced. Distance from Priestfield: 332 miles. Approximate time: 5hrs 47mins

Manager: Neil McDonald, in charge since June 2006.Last five games v Gillingham:

21/02/98: Division Two - Gillingham (Butler) 1-0 Carlisle

27/09/97: Division Two - Carlisle (Archdeacon, Pounewatchy) 2-1 Gillingham (Butters (pen))

08/04/95: Division Three - Carlisle (Hayward, Thorpe) 2-0 Gillingham

31/12/94: Division Three - Gillingham 0-1 Carlisle (Walling)

26/03/94: Division Three - Gillingham (Carpenter, Forster) 2-0 Carlisle

All-time record v the Gills:

Matches: 40
Gills wins: 18
Draws: 8
Carlisle wins: 14Remember me? Tony Williams is Carlisle's second choice goalkeeper. The former Wales under-21 international played four games on loan for the Gills at the start of the 1999/00 promotion season before losing his place and returning to Blackburn Rovers.Man to watch: Michael Bridges. Carlisle have a wealth of options in attack, but it is Bridges, once transferred for 5million, who is the one to watch. His career with Leeds was curtailed by injury but he has found his feet again at Carlisle and, if he stays put, he will be a real threat this season.2006/07 prospects: In Bridges, Karl Hawley and Kevin Gall, Carlisle look like a side with plenty of goals in them and with two successive promotions, they will be full of confidence. But they have lost manager Paul Simpson this summer and the employment of virtual unknown Neil McDonald appears to be a risk and if they don't make a good start, it could be a long winter ahead for the Cumbrians.
